Welcome to the amazing world of Chanel Couture-the year is 1985 and we are watching the couture runway show from Chanel -where every piece is a hand decorated work of art--We spot the showcase piece of the show -a sophisticated black dress with simple lines, but a bodice of crystals, each held in place by prongs just as they would be if they were on a ring-hundreds if them, perhaps over 1,000!
There are hand sewn precise rows of tiny dark black sequins which highlight the gold of many bugle beads and the sparkling crystals. The straps are equally stunning but more subtle with sequins and bugle beads. The design on the dress bodice narrows and continues to the zipper on the back.
The jacket has the haute couture Chanel label with pointed ends. The buttons are crystal and gold. The two pockets on the front are still sewn shut. They are 5" by 5.5”, entirely covered with the crystal bugle beads etc that match the design on the bodice of the dress.
As with most Chanel items, this set is as relevant today as it was in 1985. It does have the shoulder pads of that era.
